can i/ and how do i connect my hp 8620 printer to an iPad for printing

Go to settings on your printer screen enter your router name & your wireless key .

Then try a test print.

Also download HP app from apps store .

If it came with a set-up disc you may have to run the disc on a laptop to get your printer on the same wifi network as your iPad.
